What is Black Hat SEO?

What is Black Hat SEO? Maybe some people know about it and some people don’t. Meet Harris! He’s one of my high school friends. He’s a newbie on SEO world. Yesterday he asked me to explain about what is Black Hat SEO. And here is it, Buddy.

The term of Black Hat SEO has appeared in history along with the emergence of the term SEO itself. Black Hat SEO usually defined as techniques used to obtain higher search rankings in an unethical manner. Here are some characteristics of Black Hat SEO :

  • Violate the rules and regulations of Search engines.
  • Unethically presents content that looks different when viewed by the common visitor and the search engine spider.
  • Lead to a lack of experience to the internet users directly because this technique carried out on the website.

The Purpose of Black Hat SEO

Most of the black hat SEO technique actually used to have legitimacy, but some people get very exaggerated and even today this technique is widely used by the SEO community at large. Black hat SEO attempts to improve rankings in ways that are not approved by search engines, or involve deception.

The practice of black hat SEO will actually provide short-term gains in terms of ranking, but if you are caught utilizing these spammy techniques on your blog, then just prepared to face the risk of being punished by search engines.

Black Hat SEO techniques you should avoid:

  • Keyword Stuffing

Inserting too many keywords list that not relevant and not actually exist on your blog, will make you ultimately punished by search engines.

  • Invisible Text

Placing a list of keywords with white color text on a white color background by purpose to attract more search engine spiders but not visible to visitors. Another way of example in the function “div” or “span” that is not visible, or the position of the text that is not visible from the layer (negative).

  • Fake Pages

It is a technique where there is a fake page that can’t be seen by visitors, made to trick the search engine spiders in order to provide higher indexing. It’s also called Doorway Pages or “cloaking”.

The risk of using Black Hat SEO technique

Black Hat SEO techniques are very seductive, and indeed this trick can be useful, but only temporarily. They did finally get a site search rankings higher, until the sites were eventually punished for using practices that are not ethical. The risks are not comparable with what we obtained.

Search engines will look for sites that use this technique to eventually deleted from their database. Search Engines can punish sites that get caught using black hat SEO techniques, either by lowering or eliminating their ratings from the search engine database at all.

For example in February 2006, Google removed these two sites, BMW Germany and Ricoh Germany because they’re using black hat SEO techniques. Another case is the removal of PPC BigMouthMedia Agents in April 2006.

So, try to use an efficient SEO technique to get your site ranked higher, and stay away from Black Hat SEO Techniques. ;)
